You should add mulch to your garden and flowerbed using at least three inches of organic material. The mulch retains moisture, enriches the soil, and prevents weeds from growing. Mulch also makes your garden appear neat and well cared for.
Do not overlook the benefits of pine mulch for your garden. Certain plants are acidic, and thrive in acidic soil. If your garden contains plants like this, there are few things simpler than spreading some pine needles across your beds. Cover soil beds with a few inches of pine needles, and they will disperse acidity to the soil below as they decompose.
The compost pile should include equal parts of dried material and green plant material. Examples of good green material to use for compost include grass clippings, flowers, leaves, and weeds. Dried plant material consists of sawdust, shredded paper, cardboard, straw, and cut-up and dried wood material. Charcoal, meat, ashes or other diseased plants should not be included in a compost pile.
Plant some organic garlic. Cloves of garlic should be planted in well-drained soil with frequent watering in either the fall or spring. Place them about one or two inches deep into the soil pointed upwards and four inches apart. You can cut the sprouts as they grow and use them to replace scallions and chives. You will know when to harvest the garlic, because the tops will gradually turn brown. Make sure you put the garlic in the direct sunlight for days so that the skin will harden. Garlic can be tied in bunches or left loose, and stored where it will be cool and dry.
After you have read these suggestions, you can understand what you need to do to be a wonderful organic gardener. Even the best information needs to be implemented correctly, however, so be very cognizant of that fact. If you use what you’ve learned and keep on learning, you can come up with your own methods of growing a lovely organic garden.
